Falmouth is a peninsula, and as such it boasts many beaches running on both sides of town. On the Vineyard Sound side of Falmouth, facing the island of Martha’s Vineyard is one of Falmouth’s best-known beaches called Surf Drive Beach.
This three mile stretch of sand runs from Falmouth Harbor west and southwest all the way to the shadow of Nobska Lighthouse, and most of it is open to the public. There are three public parking lots — the first is at the end of Shore Street, walking distance from Main Street in Falmouth where you will find all the shops and restaurants. This is also where daily and annual stickers can be purchased for all other beach parking in town. In summer, a day pass to Falmouth parking is $10 and can also be purchased at the front desk of your local B&B. There is also public parking for Surf Drive Beach at Walker Street and Trunk River.
Another great way to get to Surf Drive Beach is to take the Shining Sea bike path which runs eleven miles from Woods Hole to North Falmouth. For a section of this charming bike path, you are riding right along Surf Drive beach near Trunk River. This is a great excursion from you local B&B to explore Falmouth beaches.
