falmouth hospitalFalmouth is in the midst of a summer-long celebration of the 50th birthday of Falmouth Hospital.  This outstanding community hospital has 95 beds, the latest in diagnostic imaging technology, surgery and outpatient surgery, and a maternity center.  Providing more than 40,000 visits a year, its emergency room is among the busiest in all of Massachusetts during the summer months.

Our town is fortunate to have such a community resource.  Thanks, Falmouth Hospital, for taking good care of the residents and visitors to Falmouth!
WH film festivalThere’s still time to take in some great independent films, meet filmmakers, participate in a workshop, and just enjoy the ambiance of Woods Hole at the annual Woods Hole Film Festival.  Now in its 22nd year, it is the oldest film festival on Cape Cod and the Islands.

This year’s offerings include more than 100 documentary, animated, and narrative films from around the world, with an  emphasis on local filmmakers. For instance, “By Way of Home”, tells the story of a woman who returns to the Cape to work in the family restaurant.  “The Golden Scallop” is about the finalists in a seafood shanty contest.  With a nod to the renowned scientific community that hosts the Festival, several films have a science theme.  “Atlantis/Earth” was filmed aboard the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution’s research ship Atlantis and features local oceanographers and a unique look at their life at sea.

The fun runs through Saturday, August. 3. Tickets are available at the Festival  box office at 72 Water Street.   The 2013 Woods Hole film Festival concludes with an awards ceremony at 10 p.m. Saturday at the Redfield Auditorium, followed by a closing night party at The Waterfront.
