The Sea around Us is a FREE event that is sponsored by Woods Hole Business Association in partnership with the world famous Woods Hole Science Community. A number of events will take place the weekend of September 15 and 16 to celebrate the legacy of Rachel Carlson. Rachel was a trailblazing women with deep ties to the Woods Hole community that started in 1929 when she was a 22 year old summer researcher with the Marine Biological Laboratory (MBL). She also conducted research in Woods Hole at the Bureau of Fisheries (now part of NOAA). She was also a pioneer in her experience as the first woman to go to sea on the NOAA research vessel, the Albatross III.
To educate others and share her knowledge and experience, Rachel became the author of three books “Under the Sea Wind,” “The Sea Around Us,” and “The Edge of the Sea”.
