The Cape Cod Marathon kicks off this Sunday, October 28th, with runners coming from all over the country and the world to experience what “Runners World” Magazine has called one of the top ten “most scenic” marathons in America.
The race, which starts and ends on the Falmouth Village Green conveniently located next to several of Falmouth’s B&B’s (see list for more info), winds past cranberry bogs, down to famous Woods Hole village, past Nobska Light and along several of Falmouth’s white sand beaches. It is a challenging and truly stunning course.
Runners are encouraged to book early, as accommodations often sell out this weekend, and consider booking two nights or more to appreciate all Falmouth has to offer, and shower, rest and recuperate after the long run.
Highfield Hall has really gone to the dogs!
Set against the backdrop of this historic Falmouth property — built in 1872 as an extravagant family home, yet falling into disrepair and disuse until the town procured the property and its adjoining 700 acres via eminent domain in 2000 — the third annual Hounds at Highfield (held on Sunday June 26th) drew hordes of happy hounds and their handlers.
Events of the day included agility course demonstrations, tours of the property and adjoining Beebe Woods, face painting (for human attendees only), music, food, and vendors.
The Beebe family, original owners of Highfield Hall, were well known in Falmouth and beyond for their love of all creatures canine. The annual Hounds of Highfield event brings a bit of that love back to the storied estate, and shares it with the 21st century residents and their four-legged friends who feel the same.
